Our View | Thumbs up, down for Tuesday

April 1, 2014

Thumbs down: To a Penn State student accused of making up a story that she was kidnapped from a campus sidewalk in January. Samantha Sernekos, 20, faces charges for the report, which raised fears and prompted police to increase patrols on campus.

Thumbs up: To organizers of Sunday’s Hoops for Hope wheelchair basketball game, which raised awareness of and funds for the Wounded Warrior project. State College native Sgt. Adam Hartswick, who was injured in Afghanistan, was presented with a check for $7,250.

Thumbs down: To an unidentified State College man who walked in front of an oncoming vehicle at 12:08 a.m. Saturday on West Beaver Avenue. Police said the pedestrian was intoxicated and could face charges. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
