Penn State baseball: Penn State pounds Youngstown State

— With six different players collecting multiple hits, the Penn State baseball team racked up 15 hits and thumped Youngstown State 15-2 Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Aaron Novak, Taylor Skerpon, Steve Snyder, James Coates, Greg Guers and Alex Malinsky each had a pair of hits as the Nittany Lions (13-13) evened their record on the season.

Penn State got all the runs it needed with a seven-run first inning, sending 13 batters to the plate. Guers ripped a two-run double and Malinsky had a two-run single to highlight the five-hit inning.

The Nittany Lions later got an RBI single from Guers and a two-runs single from Skerpon in the fifth inning, a two-run double from Novak and an RBI single from J.J. White in the sixth and an RBI single from Skerpon in the eighth.

Nick Hedge gave up two hits and two runs in 3 1/3 innings to earn the win for Penn State, which visits Purdue for a three-game series starting Friday.
