Fire companies respond to pump house blaze

From CDT staff reportsApril 4, 2014

A Millheim-area fire kept seven different departments busy overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

According to Millheim Fire Company Chief Todd Hillard, the blaze at 129 Triple J Drive started in the farm’s pump house and spread to the barn. The pump house was a total loss, but the barn sustained only moderate damage.

Hillard had no damage estimate and could not say if the property was insured. He said that the farm’s owner, John Stolfous, was Amish.

“We were on the scene from 9:40 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.,” said Hillard.

Spring Mills, Centre Hall, Alpha, Boalsburg, Gregg Township and Miles Township companies responded, as well as a tanker from a Union County company.

Millheim left its tanker on the scene overnight as a precaution, Hillard said.
