High school boys’ volleyball: Northeastern too much for State College

From CDT staff reportsApril 4, 2014

MANCHESTER The State College boys volleyball team made the long trek to the Philadelphia area and suffered a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17) sweep to Northeastern on Friday.

“It was a great night for us despite the loss,” State College coach Kim-li Kimel said. “We had three guys playing brand new positions and they did well. If we see this team at full strength, it goes more than three matches."

Senior Deniz Demirci led the Little Lions with 10 kills and nine digs.

“He was in sort of a slump,” Kimel said of Demirci, “so it was nice to see him come out and have a great game against one of the top teams in the state.”

Andrew Groves and Brandon Kuruzovich led with 11 assists a piece, while Groves tallied five kills and eight digs for State College.
