Penn State softball: Nittany Lions top Michigan State

— Penn State rallied for six runs in its final two at-bats as the Nittany Lions dropped Michigan State 7-3 on Saturday.

Penn State (9-22 overall, 2-6 Big Ten) trailed 3-1 heading into the sixth, but erupted for four runs. Karlie Habitz smacked and RBI double, while Kasie Hatfield and Shelby Miller each had RBI singles in the rally. Kristina Brackpool also plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

Habitz drilled a two-run single in the seventh to push the margin to runs. The Spartans loaded the bases without a hit in the bottom of the seventh, but Macy Jones got out of the jam with a fly out to end the game.

Lexi Knief and Habitz led Penn State with two hits each. Marissa Diescher (2-4) pitched one scoreless inning of relief to earn the win.

Sarah Gutknecht had a two-run homer and Ellie Stoffer added a solo shot in a three-run fifth for the Spartans (8-23, 1-7).

The series continues Sunday.
