Campus Corner: Mitchell slams way to PSAC honor

Former Bald Eagle Area High School standout Jasa Mitchell slammed five home runs over the weekend for Indiana University and was named the PSAC West Softball Athlete of the Week.

Mitchell, a senior at Indiana University of Pa., smacked five home runs in two days for the Crimson Hawks, increasing her PSAC lead to eight.

Against Mercyhurst on Saturday, Mitchell hit three homers in a 9-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader, the third being the game-ender.

On Sunday, she added two more homers in a 7-1 win during a doubleheader split with Slippery Rock .

Mitchell is hitting .413 with 17 runs scored, 26 hits including four doubles and a triple, and 17 RBIs. She is second in the PSAC in slugging percentage with a .889 mark. She is sixth on IUP’s all-time homer list with 21 and is seven away from the top spot. She leads the team in batting average, runs scored, hits and RBIs.

IUP is 13-5 and is second in the PSAC West.

Baseball

Seth Tressler (Bellefonte, Mansfield) is hitting .313 with 22 runs scored, 31 hits, five doubles, two homers and 18 RBIs. Mansfield is 15-10.

Justin Taylor (BEA, California, Pa.) is 4-3 with a 3.68 ERA. In 44 innings, he has allowed 43 hits and 21 runs, 18 earned, while walking 11 and striking out 32. He is also hitting .241 with three runs scored, seven hits, a double, a homer and nine RBIs. California is 16-12.

Brandon Myers (Philipsburg-Osceola, Slippery Rock) has a .323 average with five runs scored, 10 hits, two doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. Slippery Rock is 20-10.

Luke Curtis (P-O, Pitt) has two saves and a 2.30 ERA. He is 0-1. In 15 2/3 innings he has given up 21 hits and seven runs, four earned, while walking seven and striking out 17. Pitt is 16-15.

Drew Bryan (P-O, VMI) is hitting .231 with five runs scored, three hits, one a double. VMI is 16-13.

Austin Mock (State College, IUP) is hitting .333, third on the team. He has seven doubles among his 23 hits, has scored eight runs and driven in five. IUP is 11-14.

Clint Hicks (State College, PSU-Harrisburg) is 0-5 with a 5.72 ERA. In 28 1/3 innings, he has allowed 41 hits and 28 runs, 18 earned, while walking nine and striking out 12. Harrisburg is 4-20.

Brandon Quay (Bellefonte, Alderson-Broaddus) is hitting .218 with six runs scored, 12 hits, a double and eight RBIs. Alderson-Broaddus is 12-8.

Matt Fry (State College, Washington & Jefferson) has a .208 average with a run scored, five hits and an RBI. W&J is 13-9.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) is 2-1 wit a 7.06 ERA. In 21 2/3 innings, he has given up 27 hits and 19 runs, 17 earned, while walking seven and striking out 12. Lock Haven is 9-8.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) is hitting.319 with 13 runs scored and 14 driven in. Among his 30 hits are four doubles and a homer. Shippensburg is 21-8.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) is 3-0 with a 3.29 ERA. In 27 1/3 innings, he has allowed 29 hits and 14 runs, 10 earned, while walking 12 and striking out 27.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) leads the team in hitting with a .347 average. He has scored 27 runs and has 35 hits, three of them doubles, and has 10 RBIs. Virginia Tech is 14-15.

Jason Costa (State College, Walters State) is hitting. .400 with 10 hits, four doubles, four RBIs and nine runs scored. Walters is 31-10 and ranked 10th nationally among junior colleges.

Jared Daily (State College, PSU-Altoona) is hitting.148 with five runs scored, four hits and four RBIs. Altoona is 5-16.

Michael Finlan (State College, Marietta) has a 2.35 ERA and an 0-2 record. In 23.0 innings he has given up 30 hits and 12 runs, six earned. He has walked four and struck out five. Marietta is 15-9.. Marietta is 5-13.

Ben Finlan (State College, Grove City) leads the team with a 1.88 ERA. He is 1-3. In 24 innings, he has given up 18 hits and 10 runs, five earned, while walking six and striking out 14. Grove City is 5-13.

Shane Regel (State College, Allegheny) has a .318 batting average with seven hits, on a double, five runs scored and four driven in. Allegheny is 13-4.

Dylan Womer (BEA, Allegany Community College) is 1-3 with a 1.41 ERA. In 32 innings, he has allowed 20 his and 14 runs, five earned, while walking 16 and striking out 33.

Jon Romine (BEA, Allegany CC) has pitched 7 1/3 innings and is 0-1 with an 11.05 ERA. He has given up 12 hits and 11 runs, nine earned, while waking six and striking out five.

Softball

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .379 with 15 runs scored, 22 hits, two doubles, a triple and 18 RBIs, tying her for the team lead in that category. Altoona is 15-6.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .389. She leads the team in runs scored with 19. She has 21 hits, four of them doubles, a triple and nine RBIs.

Kelly Chambers (BEA, PSU-Altoona) leads the team in homers with four and is tied for the team lead in RBIs with 18. She is hitting .400 with 18 runs scored, 22 hits, four doubles and two triples.

Cassondra Ross (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is 2-0 with a 5.42 ERA. In 20 2/3 innings, she has given up 27 hits and 16 runs, all earned, while walking seven and striking out 12. At the plate she is hitting .357 with four runs scored, five hits and three RBIs.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .294 with three runs scored, 10 hits, two doubles, a triple and 10 RBIs. In the circle, she has worked 61 innings and has a 3.56 ERA and a 9-2 record. She has given up 69 hits, 33 runs, 31 earned, 20 walks and has struck out 67.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) leads the team in hits with 26 and is tied for the team lead in RBIs with 18. She is hitting .456 with 18 runs scored, three doubles and two homers.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .308 with six runs scored and six driven in.

Kate Burge (P-O, PSU-Altoona) is 4-4 with a 2.32 ERA and one save. In 54 1/3 innings, she has allowed 52 hits and 26 runs, 18 earned, while walking 11 and striking out 57. At the plate, she is hitting .227 with five runs scored, five hits, two doubles and two RBIs.

Erica Pooler (Bellefonte, Lock Haven) is hitting.217 with three runs scored, 10 hits, five doubles, a homer and nine RBIs. Lock Haven is 6-13.

Dani Hart (State College, Mt. Aloysius) is hittng.209 with nine runs scored, nine hits, a homer and four RBIs. Mt. Aloysius is 7-5.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) has a .194 average with four runs scored, six hits, a double and four RBIs. Lycoming is 10-9.

Tess Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting.415 with 18 runs scored, 22 hits, four doubles, a triple and five RBIs. She is 13-for-14 in stolen base attempts. Her streak of stolen bases ended at 52 against Stevenson. It was the fifth-longest streak in Division III history.

Kate Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting.409 with eight runs scored, 18 hits, a double, an RBI and nine-of-11 stolen bases. Lebanon Valley is 17-0 and is the only undefeated softball team left in the NCAA regardless of division.

Morgan Coble (P-O, Shenandoah) has a .293 average wit 10 runs scored 17 hits, two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Shenandoah is 7-14

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) is hitting .308 with 12 runs scored, 24 hits and three doubles, two triples and two homers. She has driven in 20 runs. One of her homers came against Penn State last week when St. Francis split a doubleheader. St. Francis is 18-10.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) is hitting .254 with four runs scored, 16 hits, four doubles, a homer and six RBIs. Central Connecticut is 15-11.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) has a .394 batting average with one run scored, 13 hits, two doubles and four RBIs. Clarion is 1-10.

Allie Baney (State College, Juniata) is hitting.185 with 12 hits, three doubles, two triples and two RBIs. She has scored 10 runs. Juniata is 3-18.

Track & field

Brice Beals (BEA, Lock Haven) placed seventh in the discus at the Millersville Metric with a throw of 152-02. Lock Haven placed third in the team standings.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) finished fourth in the 1500 in a time of 4:15.75 in the Crusader Classic over the weekend.

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) was third in the 1500 with a time of 4:11.91.

Colby Brindle (State College, Susquehanna) was fourth in the 5000 in 16.29.39

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) was second in the 800 at the Auburn Tiger Classic in 2:08.95

Tennis

Chris Borden (State College, George Mason) is 15-3 in doubles and 5-1 in singles. George Mason is 11-5.

Blake Gregory (State College, East Carolina) is 7-3 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. East Carolina is 15-6.

Lacrosse

Andy Jameson (State College, Eastern) has scored eight goals and has seven assists. Eastern is 8-4.

Kayla Weaver (State College, Shippensburg) has started all 11 games on defense. Shippensburg is 6-5.

Katie Mahon (State College, Marquette) has yet to play as a freshman for Marquette (5-6) this season.
