High school baseball: Bald Eagle Area falls to Williamsport

From CDT staff reportsApril 10, 2014

— Bald Eagle Area and Williamsport were locked in a low-scoring battle until the final inning on Wednesday.

Then, Williamsport’s offense exploded for a 14-2 win.

The Millionaires (3-1) took advantage of two early walks and then knocked in runs on six-straight hits with a home run off Dylan Burns, the second of the game from Ian Dinsmore, to cap the scoring.

“Burns was throwing strikes but he just opened up their arsenal at that point and we weren’t able to get an out,” BEA coach Jim Gardner said. “It was a real nice ball game on both sides going into the seventh. It doesn’t tell the story of the game, unfortunately. The final score looks really ugly.”

The Bald Eagles (2-3) shuffled their bullpen in an effort to keep its pitching staff fresh considering it will play five games in seven days.

Colton Comly got the start and pitched three innings, gave up four runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Otis Statham picked up the ball in the fourth and pitched into the seventh before getting in a jam. Statham was relieved by Burns but not before allowing four runs on three hits with two walks. Burns took the mound for 2/3 of the seventh and allowed six runs on six hits with a walk. Brandon Gettig finished the game for BEA.

Bryce Greene and Ryan Guenot picked up RBIs for BEA.
