Penn State receives global license for a cloud-based security service

From CDT staff reportsApril 11, 2014

A global Internet security company has donated a license for a cloud-based security service for Penn State researchers to study online risks, the university announced this week.

Penn State said the license for the Benchmark service offered by Tripwire Inc. is worth $11.75 million, which is the largest donation in the history of the College of Information Sciences and Technology.

The license will be used in the Center for Cyber Security, Information Privacy and Trust to study economic and natural security issues posed by online risks. In addition, college Dean David Hall said the service can be used in undergraduate and graduate programs.

The university said the service is available to any organization that wants to measure the effectiveness of its online security systems. For more information, go to
