Penn State football: Urschel honored as nation’s top amateur athlete

— Penn State’s John Urschel received the 84th James E. Sullivan Award, given to the nation’s top amateur athlete by the Amateur Athletic Union.

Urschel, who also won the 2013 William V. Campbell Trophy awarded by the National Football Foundation to college football’s premier scholar-athlete, was honored at an awards ceremony at the AAU National Headquarters in Orlando, Fla. Urschel was among 19 semifinalists and two other finalists, including Florida track-and-field athlete Cory Ann McGee and Nebraska volleyball player Kelsey Robinson.
