Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions fall to Ohio State

— Penn State pitchers surrendered 18 hits as the Nittany Lions fell 12-6 against Ohio State in the finale of a three-game Big Ten series on Sunday.

The two teams split the first two games, but the Buckeyes (21-15 overall, 4-8 Big Ten) took the rubber match thanks to late hitting. They broke open a 6-5 game with four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Ronnie Dawson’s two-run double was the big blow in the seventh.

Penn State (17-16, 5-3) had 13 hits, led by Steve Snyder and Ryky Smith, who had three each. Ryan Richter had two hits, including a two-run double in the fourth, and drove in three runs.

The Nittany Lions next play host to Illinois for a three-game series, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
