Each Monday, the Centre Daily Times will publish an installment in our “Share our Heritage” series, featuring photos from Centre County’s past. Today’s photo is from Gregg Henry, centennial co-chair of the Pleasant Gap Fire Company.

Henry wrote: “The picture I am sending was taken at the 1938 4th of July parade in State College. The fire company members in the picture are, from left: Mickey Adams, Bill Mowery, Bill Kerstetter, John Mong, Russell Brooks, John Mulfinger and John Tressler.

“They are pictured with the fire company’s first fire engine, an American LaFrance fire engine on a 1936 Dodge chassis. It was delivered just in time to be included in this parade as its first public appearance. Previous fire fighting equipment were a hose cart, or chemical truck purchased as used equipment or pieced together from different vehicles.

“This is the first unit that was purchased new and that has a pump with a booster tank of water, along with hose and other hand tools on board. This engine is still in the fire company’s fleet, making appearances at parades and special events.

“We will be hosting several events this summer for our centennial.”

Check www.fire8.com for the fire company’s schedule of events.
