Campus corner: Bald Eagle Area’s Chambers makes history at Penn State Altoona

Kelly Chambers has made history with the Penn State-Altoona softball team.

Chambers, a senior outfielder from Bald Eagle Area, became the first player in program history to drive in 100 runs in her career. She reached that plateau with three RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of LaRoche last Wednesday.

Chambers is hitting .403 with 27 runs scored, 31 hits, seven doubles, three triples, four homers and 21 RBIs.

She currently stands first in career numbers in walks (45), total runs scored (248), RBIs (100), home runs (22) and doubles (36). She is second in career batting average (.425) and on-base percentage (.499)

Penn State-Altoona is 21-6.

Baseball

Seth Tressler (Bellefonte, Mansfield) is hitting .325 with 29 runs scored, 39 hits, eight doubles, two homers and 24 RBIs. Mansfield is 16-15.

Justin Taylor (BEA, California, Pa.) is 4-4 with a 3.71 ERA. In 51 innings, he has given up 53 hits and 24 runs, 21 earned, while walking 12 and striking out 38. Cal is 20-15.

Brandon Myers (Philipsburg-Osceola, Slippery Rock) has a .314 batting average with five runs scored, 11 hits, two doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. Slippery Rock is 21-13.

Luke Curtis (P-O, Pitt) is 0-1 with two saves and a 2.08 ERA. In 17 1/31 innings, he has given up 23 hits and seven runs, four earned, while walking eight and striking out 18. Pitt is 16-19.

Drew Bryan (P-O, VMI) has a .235 batting average with six runs scored, for hits, one a double. VMI is 20-14.

Austin Mock (State College, Indiana, Pa.) is hitting .318 with 10 runs scored, 28 hits, seven doubles and five RBIs. IUP is 12-19.

Clint Hicks (State College, PSU-Harrisburg) is 0-6 with a 6.55 ERA. In 34 /3 innings, he has allowed 49 hits and 35 runs, 25 of them earned, while walking 13 and striking out 15. Harrisburg is 5-23.

Matt Fry (State College, Washington & Jefferson) is hitting .222 with two runs scored, six hits and an RBI. W&J is 14-11.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) is hitting .274 with 14 runs scored, 31 hits, four doubles, a homer and 14 RBIs. Shippensburg is 23-11.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) is 3-0 with a 3.29 ERA. He has given up 29 his and 14 runs, 10 earned, while walking 12 and striking out 27 in 27 1/3 innings.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) is hitting .350. He has scored 29 runs and driven in 11. Among his 42 hits are three doubles. Virginia Tech is 17-17.

Jason Costa (State College, Walters State) is hitting.400 with10 hits, nine runs scored, four doubles and four RBIs. Walters is 36-11.

Jared Daily (State College, PSU-Altoona) is hitting.148 with five runs scored, four hits and four RBIs. Altoona is 9-19.

Michael Finlan (State College, Marietta) has a 2.89 ERA and a 1-2 record. In 28 innings, he has given up 37 hits and 17 runs, 16 earned while walking 15 and striking out 54.

Ben Finlan (State College, Grove City) is 1-3 with a 1.88 ERA. In 24 innings, he has allowed 18 hits and 10 runs, five earned, while walking six and striking out 14. Grove City is 5-15.

Shane Regel (State College, Allegheny) is hitting .233 with five runs scored, seven hits, one double and four RBIs. Allegheny is 17-7.

Dylan Womer (BEA, Allegany Community College) is 1-4 with a 2.02 ERA. In 35 2/3 innings, he has given up 27 hits and 20 runs, eight earned, while walking 18 and striking out 38. Allegany is 8-19.

Jon Romine (BEA, Allegany CC) is 0-1 with an 11.05 ERA. In 7 1/3 innings, he has given up 12 hits and 11 runs, nine earned, while walking six and striking out five.

Kerry Meyers (State College, PSU Wilkes-Barre) is hitting .464 with 13 hits, including three doubles, has scored four runs and driven in two. Wilkes-Barres is 1-9.

Softball

Jasa Mitchell (BEA, IUP) set the school record for home runs in a season when she hit her 10th, a solo shot, against Edinboro last week. She leads the team in hitting with a .419 average, runs scored with 23, hits with 36, homers with 10 and RBIs with 22. She is tied for for the team lead in doubles with seven and also has a triple. IUP is 16-10.

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) reached a milestone by surpassing the 100-hit mark for her career. She now has 102. She is hitting .405 with 22 runs scored, 32 hits, 4 doubles, a triple and 24 RBIs.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .423 with 26 runs scored, 33 hits, five doubles, a triple, a homer and 13 RBIs.

Cassondra Ross (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .429 with six runs scored, nine hits, a double and five RBIs. In the circle, she is 2-0 with a 6.14 ERA. In 21 2/3 innings, she has allowed 31 hits and 19 runs, all earned, while waking seven and striking out 12.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) has a .297 average with four runs and 11 hits, two doubles, a triple and 11 RBIs. She is 12-2 in the circle with a 3.24 ERA. In 80 innings, she has given up 84 hits and 41 runs, 37 earned, while walking 23 and striking out 86.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) leads the team in hitting with a .444 mark and hits with 36. She has scored 23 runs and hs three doubles, two homers and 23 RBIs.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .250 with eight runs scored, nine hits and eight RBIs.

Kate Burge (P-O, PSU-Altoona) is 7-4 with a 1.67 ERA and one save. In 75 1/3 innings, she has given up 60 hits and 30 runs, 18 earned, while walking 22 and striking out 74. As a hitter she has a .240 average with six runs scored, six hits, two doubles and two RBIs.

Dani Hart (State College, Mt. Aloysius) is hitting .311 with 19 runs scored, 23 hits, one double, two triples, a homer and nine RBIs.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) has a .186 average with four runs score, eight hits, a double and four RBIs. Lycoming is 11-16.

Tess Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting .425 with 22 runs scored, 31 hits, five doubles, a triple and three RBIs. She has stolen 16 bases in 18 attempts. Lebanon Valley is 21-2.

Kate Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) has a .390 average. She has scored 11 times and has 23 hits, two of them doubles, and two RBIs. She is 10- for-12 in stolen base attempts.

Morgan Coble (P-O, Shenandoah University) is hitting. 293 with 15 runs scored, 24 hits, two doubles, two triples and six RBIs. Shenandoah is 10-19.

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) is hitting .313 with 13 runs scored. Among her 30 hits are five doubles, two triples and two homers. She has driven in 22 runs and is 10-for-13 in stolen base tries. St. Francis is 20-14.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) has a .289 batting average. She has scored seven runs and driven in nine. She has four doubles, a triple and a homer among her 24 hits. Central Connecticut is 21-12.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) leads the team in hitting with a .408 average. She has scored three runs and has 20 hits, three of them doubles and one a homer. She has driven in eight runs. Clarion is 1-18.

Allie Baney (State College, Juniata) is hitting .224 with 15 runs scored, 19 hits, four doubles, two triples and six RBIs. Juniata is 5-22.

Track & field

Brice Beals (BEA, Lock Haven) placed fourth in the hammer throw at the Bucknell Bison Open. He was the top Div. 2 thrower in the field with his 171-5.5 effort.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) placed fourth in the 400 at the Illinois Twilight meet.

Carolyn Darr (Penns Valley, Delaware) ran lead leg in the 4x100 relay at the Delaware Open with a time of 49.01 seconds.

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) was named the Landmark Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week after breaking a 31-year-old school record. Crowe won the 10,000 meters at the Bison Outdoor Classic in 30 minutes, 48.37 seconds, nearly a minute faster than his previous personal best.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) recorded a personal best and the eighth fastest time in school history with a 15:19.25 timing in the 5,000 meters at the Bison Outdoor Classic.

Tennis

Chris Borden (State College, George Mason) is 6-1 in singles and 18-4 in doubles. George Mason is 13-7.

Blake Gregory (State College, East Carolina) is 10-4 in singles and 4-2 in doubles. East Carolina is 17-6.

Lacrosse

Andy Jameson (State College, Eastern) has 12 goals and seven assists. Eastern is 10-4.

Kayla Weaver (State College, Shippensburg) has started all 12 games on defense. Shippensburg is 7-5.

Bowling

Ian Lakind (State College, RIT) is a member of the bowling team that will participate in the U.S. Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships Wednesday through Friday. A total of 16 teams will compete and bowl six four-game matches in the qualifying round.

Golf

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) shot a career-best 82 to place 51st in a field of 105 at the Elizabethtown Spring Classic on the Hershey Country Club East course.
