On Centre: Around Philipsburg | Curtains rise for auditions

Spring means audition time for Philipsburg’s dueling youth theater companies.

Both Front and Centre Productions and the Moshannon Valley Branch of the Centre County YMCA’s Summer Youth Theatre stage shows over the summer months. Both also audition around the same time.

This year, SYT’s auditions come first. It will hold tryouts for “The Little Mermaid Jr.” on April 22. Kids 6-11 are asked to come between 5:30 and 7 p.m., and those 12-18 between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Packets of information are available at the YMCA. Call 342-0889 for more information. The musical will be performed July 17-20.

Front and Centre is staging two productions this summer, with “Mulan Jr.” taking place June 27-29 and “West Side Story’s” curtain going up July 25-27.

Auditions for “Mulan” will be held April 28 at 6 p.m. at Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Allport. “West Side Story” tryouts will be held April 29 at 6 p.m. at Gethsemane. Because of the dance-heavy nature of the show, a separate dance audition will be held May 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cheer Central in Philipsburg.

Anyone interested in those productions is encouraged to visit www.frontandcentre.org for more information.
