High school softball: State College falls to Cumberland Valley

From CDT staff reportsApril 18, 2014

— State College was edged by Cumberland Valley 2-1 in nine innings on Thursday.

The Eagles (5-4) walked off when Summer Keefer’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth plated Shelby Mumma, who had led off with a double.

“We had kids on base and we just didn’t drive them in when they were there,” State College coach Mike Harper said. “We had chances but it’s tough to win those one-run ball games in extra innings on the road when you strand runners.”

All together, State College (6-2) left nine runners on base. Meanwhile, State College pitcher Karli Nolan relieved Jess Henderson and threw 5 1/3 innings, gave up one run on six hits and struck out two batters with a walk. Corey Marfitt notched State College’s lone RBI.
