Penn State softball: Nittany Lions fall to Wisconsin

— Penn State allowed five runs in the third inning and couldn’t recover in a 6-3 loss to Wisconsin at Beard Field on Friday night.

Marlaina Laubach pitched a complete game, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in the loss. Alyssa Sovereign went 2 for 3 and scored three runs to lead the Nittany Lions (14-24, 5-8).

The Badgers (25-15, 7-5) erupted for five runs on five hits and a Penn State error in the third inning. Wisconsin’s Mary Massei’s three-run home run highlighted the inning.

Penn State and Wisconsin play a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
