Penn State women’s hockey: Nittany Lions cut seven from roster

April 21, 2014

— Penn State has cut seven players from its roster.

Head coach Josh Brandwene confirmed to the Daily Collegian on Monday that Madison Smiddy, Brooke Meyer, Darby Kern, Birdie Shaw, Jess Desorcie, Katie Murphy and Cara Mendelson were told during their end-of-seasom meetings with the coaching staff they would not be invited to return to the program.

The Nittany Lions finished last season 4-29-3. Five players are either sophomore or junior forwards, and Smiddy is a junior defenseman, and the six combined for one goal and three assists last season. Meyer is a sophomore goalie who did not see action last season.
