Campus Corner: Bellefonte grad DeArmitt pitches perfect game for Penn State Altoona softball

Bellefonte graduate Raychel DeArmitt pitched a perfect game Saturday, striking out 10, in Penn State Altoona’s 5-0 win over Medaille.

For the second time this spring a former Centre County athlete has thrown a perfect game for the Penn State-Altoona softball team.

Last month it was ex-Philipsburg-Osceola standout Kate Burge.

On Saturday it was Bellefonte graduate Raychel DeArmitt who threw the perfecto, this one in a 5-0 shutout against Medaille in the first game of a doubleheader. Coincidentally, Burge pitched a two-hitter to get the win in the second game.

DeArmitt struck out 10 batters in her gem and registered her 13th win of the season, tops in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. She has three losses.

The junior notched her first career collegiate perfect game and the fifth in Lady Lion program history.

She has a 2.90 ERA this season. In 94 innings she has allowed 91 hits and 43 runs, 39 earned, while walking 25 and striking out 103. At the plate she is hitting .293 with four runs scored, 12 hits, two doubles, a triple and 11 RBIs. Penn State-Altoona is 23-8 overall and 12-4 in the AMCC.

Baseball

Seth Tressler (Bellefonte, Mansfield) is hitting .313 with 30 runs, 42 hits, eight doubles, two homers and 26 RBIs. Mansfield is 18-17.

Justin Taylor (Bald Eagle Area, California, Pa.) is 5-4 with a 3.26 ERA. In 58 innings he has given up 57 hits and 24 runs, 21 earned, while walking 12 and striking out 45. He is hitting .200 with three runs scored, seven hits, a double, a homer and 10 RBIs. Cal is 24-17.

Brandon Myers (P-O, Slippery Rock) has a .297 batting average. He has scored five runs and driven in 12. Among his 11 hits are two doubles and a triple. Slippery Rock is 23-15.

Luke Curtis (P-O, Pitt) is 0-1 with a 2.66 ERA. In 20 1/3 innings he has allowed 29 hits, nine runs, six of them earned, walked nine and struck out 19. Pitt is 17-22.

Drew Bryan (P-O, VMI) is hitting .235 with six runs, four hits, and a double. VMI is 21-16.

Austin Mock (State College, IUP) owns a .333 batting average. He has scored 15 runs and driven in 10 Among his 33 hits are eight doubles and a homer. IUP is 14-2.

Clint Hicks (State College, Penn State Harrisburg) is 0-6 with a 6.05 ERA. In 38 2/3 innings he has allowed 53 hits and 39 runs, 26 earned, while walking 15 and striking out 17. Harrisburg is 6-24.

Trey Nicosia (State College, Wagner) returned to the lineup after missing time with a broken finger and has a .400 batting average in five games with three runs scored, eight hits, a double and three RBIs. Wagner is 11-23.

Brandon Quay (Bellefonte, Alderson-Broaddus) is hitting .221 with 14 runs scored, 23 hits, four doubles and 19 RBIs. Alderson-Broaddus is 22-13.

Matt Fry (State College, Washington & Jefferson) has a .222 average with two runs scored, six hits and an RBIs. W&J is 17-11.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) is 2-4 with an 8.89 ERA. In 28 1/3 innings he has allowed 34 hits and 31 runs, 28 earned, while walking 18 and striking out 14. Lock Haven is 11-24.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) is hitting .264. He has scored 16 runs and has 34 hits, four doubles, a homer and 18 RBIs. Shippensburg is 24-16.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) is 4-0 with a 3.06 ERA. In 32 1/3 innings he has given up 32 hits and 15 runs, 11 earned, while walking 13 and striking out 30.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) is hitting .343. He has scored 31 runs and driven in 12. He has 46 hits, four of them doubles and one a homer. Virginia Tech is 18-20.

Jared Dailey (State College, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .148 with five runs scored, four hits and four RBIs. Altoona is 12-20.

Michael Finlan (State College, Marietta) is 2-2 with a 2.19 ERA. He has worked 37 innings and given up 43 hits and 15 runs, nine earned, while walking four and striking out 14. Marietta is 22-10.

Ben Finlan (State College, Grove City) is 2-4 with a 3.18 ERA. In 34 innings he has allowed 31 hits and 19 runs, 12 earned, while walking eight and striking out 14. Grove City is 7-18.

Shane Regel (State College, Allegheny) is hitting .257 with eight runs scored, nine hits, two doubles and six RBIs. Allegheny is 22-7.

Dylan Womer (BEA, Allegany CC) owns a 1.96 ERA and a 1-5 record. In 41 1/3 innings he has given up 30 hits, 23 runs, nine earned, walked 19 and struck out 43. Allegany is 8-19.

Jon Romine (BEA, Allegany CC) is 0-1 with an 8.71 ERA. In 10 1/3 innings he hs allowed 15 hits and 15 runs, 10 earned, while walking 10 and striking out six.

Kerry Myers (State College, PSU-Wilkes-Barre) has a .455 batting average with 20 hits, five doubles, nine runs scored and seven RBIs. Wilkes-Barre is 7-9.

Softball

Erica Pooler (Bellefonte, Lock Haven) is hitting .254 with three runs scored, 16 hits, seven doubles, a homer and 14 RBIs. Lock Haven is 16-23.

Jasa Mitchell (BEA, IUP) is hitting .414, has scored 33 runs, and has 46 hits and 10 homers, all team-highs. She also has 10 doubles, two triples and 26 RBIs. IUP is 23-9.

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .383 with 22 runs, 36 hits, five doubles, a triple and 25 RBIs.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) has a .387 batting average, 36 hits, five doubles, a triple, a homer and 13 RBIs. She shares the team lead in runs with Kelly Chambers with 28, and set the program record last weekend for career games played with 138.

Kelly Chambers (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .420 with 37 hits, 28 runs, eight doubles, three triples, four homers and 21 RBIs.

Cassondra Ross (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is 2-0 with a 6.14 ERA. In 21 2/3 innings she has allowed 31 hits and 19 runs, all earned, while walking seven and striking out 12. She is hitting .429 with six runs scored, nine hits, a double and five RBIs.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .421 and has scored 26 runs, 40 hits, three doubles, two homers and 26 RBIs. Her batting average is best among regulars. She also leads the team in hits and RBIs.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .268 with eight runs, 11 hits, a double and eight RBIs.

Kate Burge (P-O, PSU-Altoona) is 8-5 with a 1.65 ERA and one save. In 89 1/3 innings she has yielded 66 hits and 33 runs, 21 earned, while walking 25 and striking out 89. She is hitting .240 with six runs scored, six hits, two doubles and two RBIs.

Dani Hart (State College, Mt. Aloysius) is hitting .321 with 23 runs scored, 27 hits, a double, two triples, a homer and 10 RBIs. Mt. Aloysius is 19-9.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) is hitting .157 with five runs scored, eight hits, a double and four RBIs. Lycoming is 13-18.

Tess Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is second on the team in hitting with a .391 average, with 26 runs scored, 34 hits, six doubles, a triple and four RBIs. She is also 17-for-20 in stolen base attempts. Lebanon Valley is 24-3.

Kate Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is third in hitting with a .386 average, 16 runs scored, 27 hits, a double, a triple, four RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 13 tries.

Morgan Coble (P-O, Shenandoah) is hitting .299 with 16 runs scored, 26 hits, two doubles, two triples and seven RBIs. Shenandoah is 10-21.

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) is hitting .299 with 13 runs scored, 32 hits, six doubles, two triples, two homers and 23 RBIs. St. Francis is 21-17.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) is hitting .284 with seven runs scored, 27 hits, four doubles, a triple, a homer and 10 RBIs. CCSU is 23-14.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) is hitting .386 with five runs, 27 hits, five doubles, a homer and nine RBIs. Clarion is 3-22.

Allie Baney (State College, Juniata) is hitting .239 with 16 runs scored, 11 hits, four doubles, two triples and seven RBIs. Juniata is 5-24.

Track & field

Brice Beals (BEA, Lock Haven) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a 169-foot, 4-inch effort at the Bucknell Team Challenge.

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) rank the 5,000 meters in a personal-best 14:53.95 at the Larry Elis Invitational at Princeton.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) was sixth in the 800 in 2:08.56 at the LSU Gold meet Saturday.

Tennis

Chris Borden (State College, George Mason) is 6-1 in singles and 18-4 in doubles. George Mason is 13-9.

Blake Gregory (State College, East Carolina) is 7-3 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. East Carolina is 18-6

Lacrosse

Andy Jameson (State College, Eastern) has scored 12 goals and has nine assists. Eastern is 11-4.

Kayla Weaver (State College, Shippensburg) has started all 15 games on defense. Shippensburg is 8-7.
