High school baseball: State College snaps skid with win over Cumberland Valley

From CDT staff reportsApril 24, 2014

— State College snapped a two-game losing skid with a 7-4 win over Cumberland Valley on Wednesday.

The Little Lions (7-2) were aided by a sturdy pitching effort from Nick Raquet and Tyler Lebarron who combined to give up just four runs on one hit. With a heavy slate that includes five games next week looming, State College coach Bill Tussey said he was pleased with how his pitchers split solid innings.

“You just hope that your starters can stretch things out a litttle bit and you basically rest the other guys so it’s big if we can get five or six innings out of starters,” Tussey said.

But State College didn’t need a complete game from Raquet. Instead, 3 2/3 innings of one-hit ball were enough from the lefty. Lebarron took over in the fourth with the game tied and stymied the Cumberland Valley lineup the rest of the way with two strikeouts.

Calvin Sichler and Jonathan Bergman each knocked in a pair of runs for State College.
