Penn State women’s basketball: Former Lady Lion Greene signs contract with Los Angeles Sparks

— Former Penn State women’s basketball standout Nikki Greene has signed a free agent contract with the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.

Training camp opens on Sunday. Greene joins nine-year veteran Tanisha Wright (Seattle), rookie Maggie Lucas, who was the 21st overall pick in this year’s draft by the Phoenix Mercury, and rookie free-agent Ariel Edwards (Tulsa) as Lady Lions in WNBA training camps.

Greene, who was the 26th overall pick of the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury, played last season with Samsung Life Blue Minx of the Korean WBKL. She averaged 4.9 points and 3.8 rebounds with a .532 field goal percentage.

Greene was one of the best centers in Penn State history, becoming the first player record 1,000 points, 900 rebounds and 200 blocks. Greene finished her career ranked second in blocked shots (215), fourth in rebounds (994) and 30th in points (1,132).
