High school softball: Penns Valley defeats Central Martinsburg in slugfest

From CDT staff reportsApril 26, 2014

— Ashley Struble continued her torrid week by blasting two home runs as the Penns Valley softball team won its third straight in a 15-14 slugfest against Central on Friday.

The contest featured seven home runs, including three from Central’s Ashley Smith. The Lady Dragons scored three times in the seventh and had runners at first and second when Harley Hess got the final out on a grounder.

“I’ve never had a game like this,” Penns Valley coach Don Lucas said. “Struble is just tearing it up. ... It was one of those games where we would get the lead and couldn’t stop them. They have a nice hitting team.”

Struble blasted a solo shot in the second and a three-run bomb in the fourth. The senior also hit two home runs in a 4-3 win over Bellefonte on Tuesday. She also walked three times (two intentionally) Friday and scored five runs.

Tangie Lyons, returning from injury, smacked a solo homer for the Lady Rams (3-6). Lyons and Nicole Harbaugh each had two hits.

Smith went 5-for-5, scored five runs and had six RBIs for Central. Marissa Snyder scored four runs and added three hits.
