Campus Corner: State College’s Jenco swings hot bat for Virginia Tech

Former State College graduate and Virginia Tech center fielder Saige Jenco leads the Hokies with a .331 batting average and 18 stolen bases.

Saige Jenco has made an impressive debut with the Virginia Tech baseball team.

The redshirt freshman and State College graduate leads the Hokies with a .331 batting average, and also in stolen bases with 18 steals in 24 attempts.

Having played in all but one game this season, he is second in runs scored with 33 and in hits with 52, and also had four doubles, a home run and 14 RBIs. Batting leadoff for the Hokies (18-25-1 overall, 7-17 ACC), Jenco had a hit in each of their three games last weekend against North Carolina..

The Hokies are 18-25.

Baseball

Seth Tressler (Bellefonte, Mansfield) has a .321 average with 33 runs scored, 53 hits, eight doubles, two homers and 27 RBIs. Mansfield is 20-23.

Justin Taylor (Bald Eagle Area, California, Pa.) is 5-5 with a 3.60 ERA. In 60 innings Taylor has allowed 61 hits and 27 runs, 24 earned, while walking 12 and striking out 45. He is also hitting .200 with three runs scored, seven hits, a double, a homer and 10 RBIs. Cal is 25-22.

Brandon Myers (Philipsburg-Osceola, Slippery Rock) is hitting.277 with six runs scored, 13 hits, two doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. Slippery Rock is 25-19.

Luke Curtis (P-O, Pitt) is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA and two saves. In 22 innings he has given up 30 hits and nine runs, six earned, while walking nine and striking out 20. Pitt is 19-23.

Drew Bryan (P-O, VMI) is hitting .222 with six runs scored, four hits, a double and five RBIs. VMI is 22-19.

Austin Mock (State College, IUP) is hitting .377, best on the team. He has scored 26 runs and has 46 hits, 12 doubles, a triple, two homers and 22 RBIs. IUP finished the season with an 18-23 record.

Clint Hicks (State College, PSU-Harrisburg) is 0-7 with a 6.26 ERA. In 41 2/3 innings he has allowed 61 hits and 47 runs, 29 earned, while walking 18 and striking out 19. Harrisburg is 7-25.

Trey Nicosia (State College, Wagner) has a .300 average with three runs scored, nine hits, a double and three RBIs. Wagner is 12-27.

Brandon Quay (Bellefonte, Alderson-Broaddus) is hitting .241 with 18 runs scored, 28 hits, five doubles and 21 RBIs. Alderson-Broaddus is 26-14.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) finished the season with an 8.89 ERA and a 2-4 record. In 28 1/3 innings he has given up 34 hits and 31 runs, 28 earned. He walked 18 and struck out 14. Lock Haven finished at 13-28.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) has a .276 batting average with 18 runs, 40 hits, six doubles, a homer and 21 RBIs. Shippensburg is 29-17.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) owns a 5-0 record and a 2.58 ERA. In 38 1/3 innings he has given up 35 hits and 15 runs, 11 earned, while walking 16 and striking out 35.

Jason Costa (State College, Walters State) is hitting .419 with 13 hits, 11 runs, four doubles, a triple and five RBIs. Walters is 41-14.

Jared Daily (State College, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .148 with five runs scored, four hits and four RBIs. As a pitcher he’s 2-4 with a 7.81 ERA. In 40 1/3 innings he has allowed 62 hits and 47 runs, 35 earned, while walking 16 and striking out 19.

Michael Finlan (State College, Marietta) is 2-3 with a 3.13 ERA. In 37 1/3 innings he has given up 46 hits and 19 runs, 13 earned, while walking six and fanning 15. Marietta is 25-11.

Ben Finlan (State College, Grove City) is 2-5 with a 4.72 ERA. He has yielded 44 hits and 27 runs, 21 earned, while walking eight and striking out 18 in 40 innings. Grove City is 9-21.

Shane Regel (State College, Allegheny) is hittng .277 with 10 runs scored, 13 hits, two doubles and six RBIs. Allegheny is 25-11.

Dylan Womer (BEA, Allegany CC) has a 1.69 ERA and a 1-5 record. In 48 innings he has allowed 31 hits and 26 runs, nine earned, while walking 24 and striking out 48.

Jon Romine (BEA, Allegany CC) has given up 21 hits and 20 runs, 14 earned, while waking 15 and striking out seven in 14 2/3 innings. He has a 1-1 record and Allegany Community College is 17-22.

Kerry Myers (State College, PSU-Wilkes-Barre) is batting .448 with 26 hits, seven doubles, 11 runs scored and seven RBIs. PSU-Wilkes-Barre is 7-13.

Softball

Erica Pooler (Bellefonte, Lock Haven) finished her season hitting .243 with three runs scored, 18 hits, nine doubles, a homer and 14 RBIs. Lock Haven closed at 19-26.

Jasa Mitchell (BEA, IUP) leads the team in hitting with a .375 average and in hits with 51. She has scored 38 runs and driven in 31. Among her hits are 12 doubles, two triples and 11 homers, also a team high. IUP is 29-13 and will face Shippensburg on Thursday in the first round of the PSAC playoffs.

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .361 with 23 runs, 39 hits, seven doubles, a triple and 25 RBIs.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .377 with 29 runs scored 40 hits, seven doubles, a triple, a homer and 16 RBIs. Altoona is 26-9.

Kelly Chambers (BEA, PSU-Altoona) leads the team in hitting with a .417 average, doubles with nine, triples with three and is tied for the lead in homers with four, runs scored with 29 and hits with 41. She has 22 RBIs.

Cassondra Ross (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is 2-0 with a 6.14 ERA. In 21 2/3 innings she has given up 31 hits and 19 runs, all earned, walked seven and struck out 12. She has a .409 batting average with six runs scored, nine hits, a double and five RBIs.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is 14-4 with a 2.68 ERA. In 107 innings she has allowed 103 hits and 48 runs, 41 earned, while walking 29 and striking out 107. At the plate she is hitting .298 with four runs scored, 14 hits, three doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .387 with 28 runs scored, 41 hits, three doubles, two homers and 26 RBIs.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .250 with eight runs scored, 11 hits, a double and eight RBIs.

Kate Burge (P-O, PSU-Altoona) is 10-5 with a 1.49 ERA. In 103 1/3 innings, she has allowed 75 hits and 34 runs, 22 earned, while walking 29 and striking out 96. She is hitting .240 with six runs, six hits, two doubles and two RBIs.

Dani Hart (State College, Mt. Aloysius) has a .287 average with 27 runs scored, 29 hits, one double, two triples, a homer and 12 RBIs. Mt. Aloysius is 24-10.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) hit .151 with six runs scored, eight hits, a double and four RBIs. Lycoming finished with a 14-19 record.

Tess Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting .361. She has scored 28 runs and has 39 hits, six doubles, a triple and seven RBIs. She has been successful in 20 of 23 stolen-base attempts. Lebanon Valley is 29-4.

Kate Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) has 166 career hits, four short of the school record of 170. She is hitting .430 with 19 runs scored, 37 hits, one double, two triples and five RBIs. In 19 stolen base tries she has been safe 16 times.

Morgan Coble (P-O, Shenandoah) wrapped up her season with a .312 average, 17 runs, 29 hits, three doubles, two triples and seven RBIs. Shenandoah closed at 10-23.

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) has a .310 average with 19 runs, 39 hits, seven doubles, two triples, three homers and 29 RBIs, second on the team. St. Francis is 24-21.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) is hitting .294 with eight runs, 30 hits, four doubles, a triple, a homer and 10 RBIs.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) is 12th in the PSAC in hitting with a .383 average, seven runs, 36 hits, eight doubles, two homers and 13 RBIs. Clarion finished with a record of 4-29.

Allie Baney (State College, Juniata) is hitting .230 with 19 runs scored, 23 hits, five doubles, two triples and eight RBIs. Juniata is 5-28-1.

Track & field

Corey King (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in a personal best 11.05 seconds and was ninth in the 200 in 22.69 at the Cornell Big Red Invitational.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) ran the 3,000 in 9:12.52 to place ninth at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) ran on the 4x800 relay team that placed seventh in 8:46.16 at the Drake Relays. She also placed 13th in the 800 in 2:11.79

Carolyn Darr (Penns Valley, Delaware) placed third in the 100 in 12.71 at the Delaware Track & Field Classic.

Lacrosse

Andy Jameson (State College, Eastern) has scored 14 goals and has nine assists. Eastern is 12-4.

Kayla Weaver (State College, Shippensburg) started all 15 games on defense as a freshman. Shippensburg finished with a record of 8-9.
