Our View | Thumbs up, down

April 29, 2014

Thumbs up: To those who took part in the Out of the Darkness walk for suicide prevention and awareness on Sunday in State College. Participants walked in memory of loved ones who took their own lives and to raise awareness of the seriousness of depression.

Thumbs down: To the violent storms that tore through parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee on Sunday, killing at least 14 people. Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe said a tornado there might have been the strongest ever seen in the state.

Thumbs up: To the Arboretum at Penn State for hosting a group of fourth-graders at its Arbor Day event on Friday. Its mission was to educate children — in a fun, hands-on way — about nature and the importance of being good stewards of the Earth.
