A Penn State student was found dead in his residence Tuesday morning.

Darren Stafford, 22, of Princeton Junction, N.J., was found by friends in his 119 Wren Alley home, State College police said.

Lt. Keith Robb said police were called to the residence at 10:03 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive male. Stafford was found to be in “full cardiac arrest” when officers arrived on the scene. He was pronounced dead at his home by Centre LifeLink personnel.

Robb said he spoke with the student’s family Tuesday morning but held the name until the afternoon, out of consideration for the mother, who had not yet been notified.

Robb said there was no trauma, and the death was not considered suspicious, but no cause of death was available pending an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation, he said.

The university offered a brief statement.

“We are, of course, deeply saddened to learn of Darren’s death and offer our condolences to his family and friends,” said Jill Shockey, manager of the campus news bureau.
