Hearing continued for Penn State student accused in kidnap hoax

April 30, 2014

The Penn State student accused of making up a would-be kidnapping had her preliminary hearing continued Wednesday.

Samantha Nicole Sernekos, 20, of Landing, N.J., is charged with one count each of making false reports and unsworn falsification to authorities, both misdemeanors.

The charges stem from a Jan. 28 report to university police. Sernekos claimed that two white males in dark, hooded sweatshirts accosted her on Shortlidge Road around 1 a.m., forcing her into a vehicle before she was able to escape on foot.

Police investigated for two months before announcing charges were being filed, but not against the supposed attackers.

Sernekos is free on her own recognizance.
