Cyclist injured in collision with car

From CDT staff reportsMay 2, 2014

A bike-versus-car collision in Boalsburg on Thursday sent one man to the hospital.

According to State College police, David Bunge, 25, of State College, was sent to UPMC Altoona via helicopter with “severe injuries” to the lower half of his body, including at least one broken leg.

Police say the crash occurred when Bunge, on what witnesses called a “modified bicycle” with a motor, went through the intersection at Old Boalsburg Road and Easterly Parkway without slowing down. He collided with a 2011 Toyota driven by Tanya Rissmiller, 31, of State College. Two 10-year-old girls were also in the car.

Lt. Keith Robb said the incident is one about bike safety.

“The lesson here is that bikes have to follow the same rules as the rest of us,” he said.
