High school tennis: State College duo falls in district finals

From CDT staff reportsMay 3, 2014

— Sam and Matt Wherley went into the District 6 Class AAA boys’ tennis doubles championship as the underdogs against top-seeded Chad Allender and Ryan Good of Altoona on Saturday morning.

The Mountain Lion duo were just too hot for the Little Lion pair dropping only three games in their 6-1, 6-2 victory.

“Sam and Matt played a great tournament, but unfortunately they just ran into a better and more experienced team today,” State College coach Jane Borden said. “Ryan and Chad played like champions today and they deserved to win the match.”

The Little Lions will now head into the team tournament as the top seed and will play Altoona on Monday.
