Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions drop 12th consecutive loss

— The Penn State baseball team’s losing streak hit 12 games when the Nittany Lions lost to Nebraska 8-4 in the series finale.

Penn State (17-26, 5-12 Big Ten) finished with seven hits but Nebraska (32-17, 13-5) took control of the game with a five-run fourth inning and never looked back.

Aaron Novak led Penn State with two hits including a double. J.J. White reached base three times off a single, a walk and was hit by a pitch. White scored two of Penn State’s runs.

Nebraska took an early lead with a run in the first inning. Michale Pritchard doubled with two outs and Pat Kelly singled to plate Pritchard. Two innings later Penn State’s Alex Malinsky led off the third with a single up the middle. Two batters later, Jim Haley doubled down the right field line for an RBI to score Malinsky.

Penn State took the leed in the fourth when Tyler Kendall’s RBI groundout with one out plated White who walked to get on base. Nick Riotto, who reached on his own single, scored on a wild pitch to give Penn State a two-run lead.

Nebraska responded with a five-run bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. The Huskers loaded the bases with no outs and scored their first two runs on RBI groundouts. With two runners on and two outs, Kelly singled to shallow right center to score take back the lead. Two batters later Blake Headley singled to drive in Kelly and cap off the five-run frame.

Penn State picked up another run in the top of the sixth and Nebraska scored again in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.
