High school baseball: Penns Valley splits with Clearfield

From CDT staff reportsMay 7, 2014

— Penns Valley walked away with a split Tuesday, winning a 4-3 game in the 14th inning of a contest suspended earlier in the season, then falling 8-3 in the nightcap.

Ryan McElwee tossed three scoreless innings for the win for the Rams. The game begun April 9 was suspended by darkness after 11 innings. They played two more scoreless frames before Wyatt Sharp belted a one-out double and Taylor Collison followed with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 14th inning.

Defensive miscues were costly for Penns Valley in the regularly-scheduled game, with the Bison assisted by six Ram errors. Cole Kephart belted a solo home run for Clearfield and Jon Janocko had a two-run double.

Sharp was 3 for 4 and Collison had a pair of hits for the Rams (6-8), with a Cam Tobias RBI single, a fielder’s choice and an error leading to their three runs.
