State College police have identified the man they say stole women’s underwear from the Meridian apartments on East College Avenue.

According to police, the man entered the apartment building at about 10 p.m. Saturday, went to the laundry room and took undergarments from a dryer.

Police described him as a bald, heavy-set man in his 30s or 40s with a light-colored goatee. Police said the man was wearing a red Orange County Choppers sweatshirt.

Sometime after noon Wednesday, someone called police to identify the suspect based on surveillance images released to the media earlier in the day.

This is the second time this year that surveillance footage from Meridian has been effective in an investigation. In March, police were able to identify Jesse Hribar, 22, and Andrew Ronczka, 23, both of Monaca, after a burglary spree through Meridian and University Towers during State Patty’s Day partying downtown.

Lt. Keith Robb said the suspect’s name was being withheld until charges are filed in the next few days. The suspect is not a resident of the apartment building, Robb said.
