Police: Maryland man found dead in apartment, heroin possible factor

From CDT staff reportsMay 8, 2014

— Police said heroin may have been a factor in the death of a Maryland man in an apartment on West Cherry Lane.

Joel Rathod, 21, of Frederick, Md., was found dead inside the apartment at 711 W. Cherry Lane early Tuesday afternoon.

Ferguson Township police said they responded to a report of “an unresponsive male.”

“Drugs and drug paraphernalia were found inside the apartment,” police said. “Preliminary field tests of items recovered from inside the apartment indicate heroin.”

An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, along with a toxicological examination, police said.

The results could take four to six weeks.

Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call 237-1172.
