Letters to the editor | Wrong way on fossil fuels

May 10, 2014

The latest National Climate Assessment makes it clear that our lives are threatened by human-produced climate change.

A primary cause of such change is the burning of fossil fuels. In our area, the dying of oaks and other trees will increase forest fires and mudslides, threatening areas such as Lemont and many other wonderful places.

Given this predicament, it is natural that our representative in Congress, Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township, would favor drastically less use of domestic fossil fuels.

Wait a minute: His website says he favors “increases in domestic production of fossil fuels.”

We are in a very deep hole, and Thompson keeps digging.
