High school track & field: State College boys finish second at Mid Penn meet

— State College had a pair of winners and a slew of top-eight finishes, but could not quite catch Carlisle at the Mid Penn Conference Championship meet on Saturday.

The Thundering Herd won the 29-team meet with 94.5 points, while the Little Lions had 89. Lower Dauphin was far back in third with 68 points.

Earning wins were Will Cather and Kellin Valentine. Cather was first in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 16.71 seconds. Valentine leaped to the top in the long jump at 22 feet, 6 1/4 inches. Valentine also took third in the triple jump at 47-3.

Mason Post added a runner-up finish in the 400 in 49.54, the 3,200 relay team took second in 8:08.73 and Griffin Thompson tied for second in the pole vault at 13 feet.

Other top-eight finishes came from Tristan Daman, who was third in the 100 (11.33) and sixth in the 200 (22.74); John Smith, who was sixth in the 400 (50.32) and the 110 hurdles (15.91); Alex Banerjee, who was fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.68); and Alex Milligan, who grabbed fifth in the 800 (1:59.53).

Also, Bryce Williams took fourth in the triple jump (46-6 1/4), Matt Mullin was eighth in the shot put (41-10 1/2), the 400 relay team was third (43.32) and the 1,600 relay team took sixth (3:29.09).
