Penn State baseball: Indiana thumps Nittany Lions again

— Indiana belted a pair of home runs while the Penn State baseball team’s downward spiral continued in an 8-1 loss to the Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Nittany Lions (17-28, 5-14) were held to six hits as their losing skid was extended to 14 straight games. The teams conclude their three-game weekend series Sunday. Indiana has won the first two games of the series by a combined score of 18-1.

J.J. White had a pair of hits including a first-inning RBI single to account for the lone run for Penn State, which had a brief 1-0 lead on a Hoosier team looking to return to the College World Series and is ranked No. 20 in the USA Today coaches poll.

Dustin DeMuth was 3 for 4 with a double for the Hoosiers, Sam Travis collected his second home run of the weekend and ninth of the season and Kyle Schwarber also cracked a solo homer for nine on the season.

Christian Morris (4-3) gave up six hits, two walks and the run with three strikeouts over seven innings for the win.

T.J. Jann (1-8) allowed eight hits, six runs and two walks with one strikeout in six innings for the loss.
