High school baseball & softball: District 6 playoff pairings set

District 6 announced its brackets for the Class AA baseball and softball championships, which begin Thursday.

In baseball, No. 12 seed Penns Valley (7-9) will face fifth-seeded Forest Hills (12-4) in the first round at 4 p.m. Thursday in Sidman. Bald Eagle Area (12-5) earned the second seed and a first-round bye. The Eagles will host the winner of the Blairsville-Southern Huntingdon matchup Monday at 4 p.m. Central (18-0) is the top seed.

In softball, fourth-seeded Bald Eagle Area (14-3) will host No. 13 seed Penns Valley (7-9) in the first round at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Rams during the season, winning 10-0 and 6-3.

Second-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola (16-3) will face Central Cambria (5-8) in the first round in Philipsburg at 4 p.m. Top-seeded Penn Cambria (18-0) has a first-round bye. The quarterfinals are set for Monday.

The Class AAA and AAAA will be set later this week.
