High school softball: Bald Eagle Area falls to Central

From CDT staff reportsMay 14, 2014

— Bald Eagle Area lost a suspended game 10-9 to Central, but thanks to Bellefonte’s win over Philipsburg-Osceola celebrated the outright Mountain League title.

The contest was suspended by rain with the score 3-3 in the first inning earlier this season.

BEA (15-4) scored five runs in the second inning to take an 8-3 lead. Central rallied and won on Brooke Albright’s two-run single in the sixth.

The Lady Eagles committed seven errors in the contest, which ruined a solid pitching effort by Sydney Shultz.

“Shultz pitched well enough to win,” BEA coach Curt Heverly said. “Our defense just didn’t show up today.”

Logan Fischer belted a three-run homer and Olivia Andrews had three hits for the Lady Eagles. Ashley Smith homered and drove in five runs for Central. Marissa Snyder had two hits, scored three runs and drove in two.

BEA hosts Penns Valley in the opening round of the District 6 Class AA playoffs at 4 p.m. Thursday.
