Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions edge Villanova, snap 15-game skid

— Penn State snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over Villanova on Tuesday.

Geoff Boylston pitched 5 2/3 innings, limiting the Wildcats to one run on five hits to earn the win for the Nittany Lions (18-29). Jim Haley, Aaron Novak and Alex Malinsky each had two hits to lead Penn State. The Nittany Lions finished with 11 hits, their first double-digit outburst since April 20 against Illinois.

Penn State took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth, highlighted by Greg Guers’ RBI triple. The Nittany Lions led 5-1 after six innings and held off Villanova (15-32) for the win.

Guers and Malinsky each drove in two runs for Penn State.

The Nittany Lions close out the regular season with a three-game series at home against Michigan State. The series opener is Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
