Penn State baseball: Nittany Lions drop season finale to Michigan State

— The Penn State baseball team’s season came to an end with a 7-6 loss to Michigan State on Saturday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Nittany Lions (18-32, 5-18 Big Ten) got a big performance from freshman Jim Haley who went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Taylor Skerpon went 2-for-3 and also scored and knocked in a run for the Nittany Lions. Greg Guers and Zach Ell added Penn State’s other RBIs.

Penn State took an early lead with two runs in each of the first and second innings. The Spartans (29-24, 11-13) battled back, picked up a run in the top of the second then plated four in the top of the fourth. Michigan State added a run in each of the sixth and eighth innings to pull away.

Nittany Lion starter Ian Parvin went 3 1/3 innings, gave up six runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Geoff Boylston (2-2) took the loss for Penn State when he gave up an unearned run in the top of the eighth.
