Search continues for missing boater in Clearfield County

From CDT staff reportsMay 18, 2014

State police at Clearfield, the Clearfield fire department and other emergency personnel were involved in a “water rescue” operation on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Clearfield County near Karthaus, a state police spokesman said late Sunday.

A Union County church group was on a canoe trip on the river Saturday when a canoe carrying two teenagers tipped over, according to reports. One of the teens made it to shore, and the other has been missing since the incident. Neither was wearing a life vest.

According to a news release, search operations were underway on the river from the Rolling Stone Bridge in Covington Township to the bridge in Karthaus, and Clearfield County emergency service personnel have suspended traffic in that area until further notice.
