High school track & field: Several State College athletes have top-10 seeds for PIAA meet

From CDT staff reportsMay 19, 2014

If seedings are any indication, the State College boys’ track and field team is expecting to bring home a nice collection of medals from the PIAA Championships this weekend.

The Little Lions have five top-seven seeds for the meet, set for Friday and Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium at Shippensburg University. The seedings are based on performances at district championship meets around the state last week, and do not take into account any other events.

Leading the way is Bryce Williams with a pair of top-five seeds, sitting first in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. The 3,200-meter relay team has the No. 2 time, the 400 relay team is seeded seventh, and Jon Smith is also seventh in the 300 hurdles.

On the girls’ side, State College’s Veronika Karpenko has the No. 5 seed for the triple jump.
