UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State will take 12 opponents that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2013 as the school announced its 19-game women’s soccer schedule Tuesday. PSU welcomes 11 opponents to Jeffrey Field this season, including six Big Ten foes.
“Philosophically, we always attempt to play against some of the top programs around the country to prepare for a very competitive Big Ten season,” coach Erica Walsh said. “Our hope is to compete against the best in the non-conference portion of our schedule in order to challenge our strengths and expose our weaknesses.”
Penn State opens the season with home games against West Virginia (Aug. 22), Syracuse (Aug. 24) and Connecticut (Aug. 29).
Other home games are: Ohio State (Sept. 19), Bucknell (Sept. 23), Northwestern (Sept. 26), Illinois (Sept. 28), Rutgers (Oct. 11), Nebraska (Oct. 24), Iowa (Oct. 26), Maryland (Oct. 30).
The highlight on the road schedule is the Duke Classic, where Penn State will face Duke (Sept. 5) and North Carolina (Sept. 7) in Durham, N.C.
