High school boys’ volleyball: State College to play Norwin in PIAA first round

District 6 champion State College will face District 7 runner-up Norwin in the opening round of the PIAA Class AAA Boys’ Volleyball Championships at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Altoona High School.

The hot Little Lions have won seven of their last eight matches after starting the season 2-5. State College knocked off Erie McDowell 29-27, 25-18, 25-13 in a PIAA play-in game on Friday. Norwin lost 3-0 against North Allegheny, which has now won 11 of the last 12 WPIAL championships, in the District 7 title match.

The winner between State College and Norwin will face the winner between North Allegheny and Fox Chapel, the fourth-place finisher in the WPIAL, on Saturday.

The State College-Norwin clash will be preceded by another PIAA matchup at Altoona. District 3 runner-up Central Dauphin will face Bethel Park, the third-place finisher from District 7.
