Centre County League Baseball: Philipsburg, Pleasant Gap split doubleheader

From CDT staff reportsMay 31, 2014

Philipsburg and Pleasant Gap played a doubleheader on Saturday at the Shaner Complex with both teams picking up a win.

The Peppers (2-3) rallied to a 5-4 victory in the opener while the Pirates (2-2) got revenge taking the second game 7-3.

In the first game, Philipsburg jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning thanks in part to Jake Belinda’s two-run double. Pleasant Gap quickly reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs.

The Pirates bats stayed hot into the second inning where they put up two more runs and claimed a 4-3 lead. However, the fifth inning would be the dagger for Philipsburg.

The Peppers strung together five hits in the bottom of the fifth and got a two-run single from Trey Burger, which would be the eventual game winning runs.

In the second game, Pleasant Gap scored all three runs in the first inning and would go silent the rest of the game.

The Pirates tallied runs in the first four innings to climb out to a 6-3 lead after four innings. The third inning was the biggest for Philipsburg as they brought three runs across and Tyler Good’s RBI double sparking the offense.
