Woman critical after Pine Grove Mountain crash

— A woman driving a Ford Ranger pickup lost control on state Route 26 and hit a tree early Thursday morning on Pine Grove Mountain.

According to Shaver’s Creek Fire Company Chief Dave Smead, the woman was traveling south after passing from Centre County into Huntingdon County when she lost control of the truck, crossed the northbound lane and hit an oak tree, causing serious damage to the vehicle.

Smead said the accident occurred just after 7 a.m. in rain and heavy fog. The woman was the only person in the truck. She was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center by ambulance because an emergency helicopter was not available due to the weather.

The woman was listed in critical condition, Smead said.

State police were on the scene investigating the accident.

Traffic was stopped in both directions on state Route 26 for about a half hour, but was then moved to one lane on the shoulder until the investigation was completed and accident scene cleaned.
