Bridge replacement will close Woodward Cave Road, force detour

June 13, 2014

Work to replace a bridge on Woodward Cave Road will require a closure starting Thursday. When work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list.

Once the bridge is closed, a detour will be in place. PennDOT’s official detour will use Woodward Cave Road, Coburn Road and state Route 45. Drivers familiar with the area may choose to use alternate routes. The closure and detour is expected to last through July 18.

The current bridge spans an unnamed tributary of Pine Creek just east of the village of Coburn in Penn Township. The 19-foot bridge was originally built in 1916 and carries an average of 125 vehicles each day.

PennDOT Centre County maintenance will perform this replacement work, which is weather- dependent.
