Centre County League: Lemont sweeps doubleheader with Clarence

June 15, 2014

— Logan Magill smacked a three-run homer in the opener and doubled home the winning run in the second game as Lemont swept a Centre County Baseball League doubleheader against Clarence on Sunday.

In the first game, Mike Lutz’s two-run double had helped Clarence (5-3) take a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but Lemont fought back. The Ducks (4-6) scored twice in the third before Magill touched off his blast in the fourth.

Zach Moerschbacher overpowered the Mounties in a six-hitter. He struck out 12 and walked two.

Kerry Myers had two singles for the Ducks, while Lutz had three hits for Clarence.

Lemont trailed 4-2 in the nightcap, but got even on Jared Daily’s two-run double in the sixth. Myers smacked a one-out double in the seventh and raced home on Magill’s double.

Jason Costa had a single, double and triple to lead the Ducks’ 11-hit attack. Daily and Myers added two hits each, while Zack Owens earned the win on the mound.

Brian Kochik had a two-run single in the second for the Mounties. Lutz and Dave Urbanik had two hits apiece.
