UNIVERSITY PARK — Trent Karlik put together a pair of impressive rounds to take a three-shot lead heading into the final round of the 114th West Penn Amateur Championship at the Penn State Golf Courses on Monday.
Karlik, of Pittsburgh, opened with a 2-under 69 on the 6,439-yard White Course in the morning, then followed with a 5-under 66 on the 6,885-yard Blue Course. He has a 7-under 135 total.
Arnold Cutrell of Greensburg is second at 4-under 142, with Michael Grisnik another two strokes back heading into Tuesday’s final round on the Blue Course, for which the field of 75 was pared to 36 players.
Missing the cut was Garrett Bastardi, a St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy student from Boalsburg, who carded 77-80—157.
This marks the first time the Penn State layouts have hosted the event, which was first held in 1899.
