Duncansville man drowns in Raystown Lake

From CDT staff reportsJune 17, 2014

— A Duncansville man, trying to swim across a cove, drowned Monday evening in Raystown Lake.

State police said Dustin Weyandt, 23, began struggling after swimming about half of the 200-yard cove near Trough Creek State Park. Witnesses observed him go under twice before failing to resurface the second time, police said.

Marklesburg Fire Company members deployed an unmanned submarine to find Weyandt, who was at a depth of 24 feet. At about 8:40 p.m., more than two hours after Weyandt disappeared, divers recovered his body.

Robertsdale, Wood and Broad Top City, Smithfield, Saxton and Trough Creek Valley fire companies also responded. The Newton Wayne and Mount Union dive teams, Huntingdon County EMA and the U.S. Army Corps assisted in the recovery.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is pending.
