UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State football team had 46 players earn at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the spring semester, the university announced Wednesday.
Three of those players earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 40 will be returning for the 2014 season.
Penn State said 24 players posted 3.5 GPAs or higher, with 21 having the 12 credits needed for dean’s list recognition.
Last spring, 34 returning players had at least a 3.0 GPA.
“Our goal is to have the No. 1 college football organization in the country and it all starts with academics and ends with academics,” head coach James Franklin said in a news release. “To see our players prospering academically, being successful in the classroom and graduating is what it’s all about.”
