DA: Blanchard couple plead to animal cruelty charges

From CDT staff reportsJune 18, 2014

— Jeffrey and Brenda Thompson, of Blanchard, pleaded guilty to four summary counts each of cruelty to animals tied to the care of rabbits, the Centre County district attorney’s office said Wednesday.

The SPCA had received a report of unsanitary conditions for rabbits kept in a pen, and discovered “other issues with other animals,” the DA’s office said in a news release.

As a condition of their pleas, the Thompsons will surrender four dogs, three cats, two rabbits, two guinea pigs, four chickens and four ducks.

An inspection of the property where the animals were kept is scheduled for July, and other inspections will follow monthly for a year, the DA’s office said.

The couple also were ordered to pay $600 in fines and $260 in court costs, and to provide 50 hours each of community service.

The DA said they were prohibited from owning animals for a year.
