Letter to the editor | Watch out for bikes

June 19, 2014

In the past year, I have seen the results of two of my friends becoming the victims of hit-and-run accidents in which they were commuting on their bicycles after dark and got hit from behind by a car despite there being lights on their bikes.

In both instances, the victims hit their heads on the pavement so hard that they only vaguely remember the accident happening and are unable to remember any information that might help identify the drivers after being left for dead on the side of the road.

Being a person who commutes almost exclusively by bicycle myself, I urge all my fellow citizens to remain vigilant and to report any accident that they may witness.

Furthermore, I urge anyone who witnesses an accident to render assistance to anyone who might be injured or panicked.
